Generation vote

A General Election has been called on Thursday 8th June and students and young people need to be on the agenda.

Across the UK only 55% of people aged 18-24 are registered to vote, compared to over 90% of over 65s. Students and young people have the power to swing the vote in constituencies across the UK, but must be registered in order to do so. By registering to vote you can become part of #GenerationVote and become a force at the ballot box.

How do I register?

Registering to vote is really easy and takes less than 5 minutes. All you have to do is visit www.gov.uk/register-to-vote and make sure you have your National Insurance number to hand.

As a student you are within your right to register at both your home and term time address for certain elections. Although you are not able to vote twice in the General Election, having your name on the register both at home and at your term-time address can influence policy makers to pay attention to people like you.

The deadline for registering to vote in the 8th June General Election is midnight on Monday 22nd May.

I need some more information…

Check out this really handy guide to #GenerationVote which has been put together by the NUS. If there is anything you are still unclear about then pop into one of our UCSU offices and ask.
