Lancaster University students hospitalised after using legal high

Thursday 21-05-2015 - 12:32
Attention

Recent news reports have alerted us to the fact that five students from Lancaster University are in hospital, two of them critically ill, following a suspected overdose of a drug called Spice. Although these students are not from the University of Cumbria, we would advise that, if you have taken this drug, it is extremely important to call 999 immediately and call for an ambulance. Please also check on anyone you think may have taken it.

Spice is a cannabis based drug and can be bought over the internet. Packages may be labelled ‘not for human consumption’. Further useful advice and information can be found at www.talktofrank.com

UCSU will be offering sessions to raise awarness of the dangers of legal highs and illegal drugs during our Welcome Festival in September.  We provide independent advocacy and support to all students for a range of academic and non-academic issues, including physical & mental health & well being.  If any of our members have been affected by the situation in Lancaster, or would like to speak to a member of our friendly team for an informal chat - drop us a line suadvice@cumbria.ac.uk

Our thoughts and best wishes are with the Lancaster University students and their families, as well as our friends and colleagues at Lancaster University Students' Union.
