Maintenance grants: UCSU will not stop the fight!

On the 14/01/2016 maintenance grants for the poorer students were scrapped without a debate, the government has blocked a vote in the House of Commons.

Since Chancellor George Osborne announced his intention to scrap these vital grants and replace them with loans during the summer, UCSU has stood up for students however the government has pushed ahead with it’s plans to scrap the grants and have avoided real debate on the issue. George Osborne is ignoring the concerns of students.

Students and parents have come together all over the country to voice their concerns and to get behind the NUS Cut the Cost Campaign.

UCSU will not stop fighting for the grants to stay, and when the government listens to the concerns of it’s students and parents it must halt its plans. I do hope that MP’s will see the impact of saddling students with more debt.
