Nhs

On 10th February there is a national walkout amongst students on NHS funded courses in opposition to the NHS bursary cuts, this will take place between 10am-11am.

UCSU recognises the right of students to protest and to participate in industrial action. UCSU recognises the balance that students face in this circumstance, between their right to participate in the national walk out, and their responsibilities to their learning experience and patient /service user care. UCSU wishes to ensure that students are able to make informed decisions regarding participation is this walk out.  UCSU has been offered reassurance from the University regarding the correct processes for students to follow,  should they participate in the walk out, and have been assured students will not face disciplinary action if they follow these correct steps.

We urge anyone who is taking part to notify the lecturer or placement area and the placement records department prior to the event so they are aware of your participation in the walk out. This will allow for the management of any disruption to those who choose not to take part and to patients and service users. It should be noted that if students walk out during a shift on placement it can impact on the welfare of patients and service users and we ask that you to follow the correct steps by notifying your placements that you will not be present for the shift in its entirety.

Students are expected to notify their lecturers and tutors through the usual absence procedures and in writing. Students should also notify their placement.  The time taken to participate will be owed back similar to if you are absent due to illness.
