Wednesday 22nd February

Volunteering Project day with Morecambe Bay Partnership, 9am-5pm.

During Student Volunteering Week we're going to volunteer at Birkrigg Stone Circle near Bardsea (near Ulverston) – we'll be joining Morcambe Bay Partnership for a litter pick and may combine it with some site identification/survey work seeking out other monuments known to exist but that  are virtually impossible to see or are hidden. This will be a fantastic way to do something practical, different and rewarding and will be a great way to explore a new area. Full details will be emailed out nearer the time to everyone who applies. Apply at: http://www.ucsu.me/volunteering-opportunities/

Thursday 23rd February

Volunteering project day with the Environment Agency, 10am-4pm.

UCSU is joining the Environment Agency for a day of tree planting in a beautiful location in the heart of the Lake District. We’ll be next to the River Derwent outside all day so please bring warm clothes, waterproofs, wellies or sturdy footwear and hats, gloves and anything else to keep you warm. Please also bring along a packed lunch, we’ll bring hot drinks and snacks. This is a fantastic opportunity to do something physical and rewarding and meet people from different campuses, not to mention learn new skills. By planting trees on the upper Derwent catchment you are also slowing the flow in future flood events and stabilising the river banks as the tree roots help bind the river banks together and can reduce river bank erosion which all helps with flooding issues. Apply at: http://www.ucsu.me/volunteering-opportunities/tree-planting-in-beautiful-location
