Happy October, everyone!

Team UCSU fondly hopes you have had a great start to your Autumn, and Academic year.

This Summer has been incredibly eventful with so much going on, and leading to the start of term.

We have had staff position changes, and two brand new and brilliant Student Union Officers!

Your new UCSU Officers- Anna Fletcher+Hannah Price!

This is Anna Fletcher's (Academic Officer) & Hannah Price's (Community & Partnership) Officer's first term in Office, after being elected earlier this year! They're both based in Lancaster, and I'm based in Carlisle. However- we travel very frequently from campus to campus, to ensure that you get the opportunity to talk to us about your ideas and student life.

Here are some of the key events and initiatives that we're going to be campaigning together this term, to make some big and beneficial changes to your student life!

1. Because I Said I Would …Ask (2nd October onwards) This is where you get to have the opportunity to pose us any question of your choice, relating to your life at university. We're here to help and grant you clarity with your experience as a student.

2. World Smile Day (6th October) - Today, we shared quite a few smiles and shared them on our social media channels, to raise the overall cheer of student and staff across campuses!

3. World Mental Health Day (10th October) There will be a 'Tea & Talk' event at Fusehill Street & Lancaster, during the afternoon. Come along for Tea, Cake and a chat about Mental Health! (Raising awareness &  knowledge, breaking down negative stigma, and learning about what support there is for anyone to access etc).

4. Rainbow Road for National Coming Out Day (11th October). At the Carlisle & Lancaster campuses, we're going to be drawing a chalked Rainbow bath at the entrances of the campuses to celebrate.

5. Anti – Bullying Week (Starts 13th November) We have a few events lined up for this. Hannah will be taking the lead with organising a Sports day in Lancaster on the 10th of November, and we're all going to be leading the 'Wear it Blue' initiative- where we will be wearing a blue item of clothing to raise awareness. Please do the same! :)

6. Panel- We're always working on raising the bar of student engagement of making great change happen. We've been visiting campuses and introducing you to the concept, form and function of our Democratic Student Representation platform- which is really a lot of fun, and has a direct effect on the lives of all students. Get your ideas heard and put into action!

7.Nightwise- To tackle the direct & indirect issues surrounding substance/drug abuse, your Officer Team have decided to take action and link up with LUSU (Lancaster University Student's Union) to work on raising awareness of the problem, in a friendly, inclusive and approachable way. Problems which stem from it can cover sexual harrassment/abuse, rowdiness in public, violence, accidents in public, and so on. So we really need to do something about it! The campaign will be updated and reported in future Officer Logs.

You can see our individual profiles & manifestos on the website, along with our social networking accounts- I'll drop all the links at the end!

Lifestyle Champions:

And last but not least (for this article, or my 'Officer's Log' in general!) is an introduction to my 2nd (and last) term of office Master-Plan!

In short, it will be a Multi-Campus Health & Wellness Action group. Once it gets up & running, I'm hoping it will be an official Student Society. So far, in just a few weeks, I have recieved interest from dozens of students across the campuses who are also interested in working with me to increase the health & happiness of the student community. Covering all angles! So if you're interested in contributing your ideas, suggestions, insight and power into helping achieve this, then feel free to get in touch.

I have some existing health & wellness campaings which you can be part of- however there's always room (and need) for your own ideas, as well!

It is definitely worth mentioning, that I have a very good feeling about what your new Officer Team are going to accomplish this year, together. Anna & Hannah are incredibly motivated and strong on the initiative, brimming with bright ideas & strong conviction to get what they set out to do. I'm sometimes struggling to keep up with them (Old Officer troubles)!

Looking forward to seeing you soon, and have a wonderful October.
