The night of the 11th of March saw the election results for the Cumbria Votes 2019 Elections announced. We had a fantastic number of candidates this year which really saw the campaign trail come alive. After 835 students cast their vote, it came down to those few minutes when the winners were revealed. First, we found out who would be taking their place on the UCSU Panel for 2019/20. (List of winners below.) Then we moved onto the announcing of the winners of the Officer Positions. First up was the role of Community and Partnership Officer of which Katie Brooks was proclaimed the winner by our Deputy Returning Officer before the Academic Officer was revealed to be Lequane Johnson, who won his second term as Officer. About his re-election, Lequane said “From the start, I was really nervous, the competition was really high. Rebecca had a strong manifesto that covered most of the student population so I was worried but now I am just really happy about it. Really chilled. I want the illustrator that did my t-shirts that got some attention. I had some students who helped me in talks and going to student accommodation and who helped me give out fruit and things. I think because I have done this twice now I can help the next generation of Officers, I can’t get involved in their campaigns but I can give them pointers, I am always looking forward to the future.”  The final new edition to the 2019/20 team was revealed to be Joe Morrell who will be taking up the position of Welfare and Support Officer along with the rest of the winners in the summer of 2019.
