Do you want to make a real difference to student life at the University of Cumbria? Nominations are now open for our Student Officer positions! These roles offer you the opportunity to represent your peers, lead campaigns for positive change, and develop valuable skills that will kick-start your career.
Whether you’re interested in academic matters, wellbeing, diversity, or enhancing the student experience, there’s a position for you. Read on to learn more about the roles, what’s new this year, and how to get involved.
What is a Student Officer?
Student Officers represent the voice of University of Cumbria students, working to improve academic experiences, wellbeing, and campus life. They take part in decision-making at the highest levels of the University, campaign for positive change, and work with the Students’ Union to ensure student needs are heard and addressed.
- Full-Time Roles: These positions are for students who have finished their studies in 2025, or are planning to interrupt their studies for a year.
- Part-Time Roles: These are open to all students who will be current University of Cumbria students in 2025/2026.

Available Roles and Descriptions
Core Officers (1 FTE/ 0.5 FTE salaried positions)
- Academic Lead Officer (full-time): Represent students on academic matters, lead campaigns to enhance academic experiences, and collaborate with University committees.
- Wellbeing Lead Officer (full-time): Champion student wellbeing, lead the Student Experience Committee, and improve the overall student experience.
- Institute Officer (part-time): Represent students within your Institute, running forums and liaising with Course Reps to amplify student voices.
Part-Time Representative positions ( Max. payment 7hrs pw, term-time only, 32 weeks)
- Online Learner Officer: Advocate for remote learners, gathering feedback on their unique challenges and experiences.
- Social Officer: Focus on campus life, supporting events and activities that foster inclusivity and community (must be an on-campus student).
- Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) Officer: Lead on EDI initiatives, providing guidance and advancing diversity (must demonstrate understanding and interest in EDI issues).
- Mature Student Officer: Represent mature students and their unique perspectives (must be aged 25+).

How to Nominate Yourself
Nominating yourself is simple! Here’s what you need to do:
- Choose your desired role from the list above.
- Submit your nomination, including:
- Manifesto: A 300–500 word statement outlining your priorities and why you’re the best candidate.
- Photo: A clear, professional image of yourself.
- Ensure you’re available for Campaign Training between 14th and 21st February.
