The North of England Civic Trust is a building preservation trust working to conserve and regenerate building from the high street to the countryside. The latest restoration project is the Warwick Bridge Corn Mill located just outside Carlisle. NECT acquired Warwick Bridge Corn Mill in 2015, and over the next few years we are planning to restore the mill and bring it back into use. Even the original machinery will be restored back to working order, so we can begin producing flour. The mill as it stands today has been almost unchanged since the 1840s, and our aim is to keep it as an asset for the community.
Running family activities and engaging schools is a big part of the Warwick Bridge Corn Mill, and we need volunteers to help with all parts of the project. We will be running Heritage Open Day events, as well as family activities at the weekend and during the school holidays. These activities will range from arts and crafts to tours, so if you are enthusiastic and willing to get stuck in we would love to hear from you! We would also like volunteers to contribute ideas when designing new activities.
We will also be running educational sessions for visiting schools throughout the project, and need volunteers to help facilitate these sessions from set up to delivery. School visits will involve tours and activities including building mini mills and creating a wildlife garden. We're looking for volunteers who enjoy working with children and want experience working with schools or within a heritage environment.
