Campus Reps - What do they do?

What is a Campus Rep?

The Students’ Union has ten Campus Reps; two per main campus location: Ambleside, Brampton Rd, Fusehill St., Lancaster, and London.

Campus Reps are elected each year to represent students on their campus and sit on the Students’ Union’s Executive Committee.

What do they do?

There are two main parts to the role:

Delivering events and social activities to bring the campus community together.

Sitting on the Executive Committee and inputting into the big decisions within the Students’ Union.

Once in-person teaching returns, Campus Reps will decide what events and what activities we deliver.

When planning Welcome, Campus Reps have the final say over the schedule for their campus.

Meeting for an hour-or-two every two or three weeks via Microsoft Teams, the Executive Committee vote on students’ Ideas, initiate Students’ Union activity and campaigns (e.g. our foodbank), hold the Officer to account, and approve new student Groups.

Beyond this, our Campus Reps are supported to deliver any campaigns or activities laid-out in their election manifesto. This could include lobbying the University, engaging in national campaigns, or anything they are elected to achieve.

What is involved?

As volunteers no part of the role is compulsory, and your academic work always takes preference.

We endeavour to schedule Executive Committee meetings only when strictly necessary and at a time which suits your schedule.

How do I apply?

If you are looking to represent your peers and develop leadership skills, this really is the opportunity for you. Like our other representative positions, the role of Campus Rep is designed to fit around you, your schedule, and your aims.

To nominate yourself, go to www.ucsu.me/nominate and log-in. Nominations close at midday (12pm) on Friday 5th February.

Campus Reps are elected by all students on their campus. Votes are cast by preferential ballot, with the top two candidates being elected. Voting will take place from 9am Mon 1st March – 12pm Fri 5th March.
