Ambleside campus lighting in the night is too much. This is financially damaging, environmentally damaging, dehumanising and bad for wildlife.

Reduce Lighting to appropriate levels.

Outcome

Lighting has been toned down and is constantly reviewed!

Some (of the many) reasons to reduce light levels are shown in this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sYAzTYmXMBg If anybody is concerned with the implications to night time security or health and safety, I would suggest talking to the friendly security guards: I was told the decorative floor lighting was only for aesthetical appearance and the two very powerful lights on the beehive was blinding and actually a hindrance to their work. Many more lights are “unnecessary” or “over the top”. The University describe the campus having “a particular emphasis on outdoor and environmental subjects as well as business.” Surly it should practice what it preaches?

Living in the cottages last year I definitely noticed this as an issue. The lighting is blinding and aren't (as far as I'm aware) solar powered.
