Segregated staff dining in the view

After observing the new staff room upstairs in the view (bar 301), I was disappointed to hear that a permanant wall is to be in place soon.

We constantly ask for more accessible student space and it now seems they are taking space away. Why does it have to be in half the bar? It's blocking out the lovely light up there and we were so happy to get a bar after ideas were submitted for one.

This wall will further separate students and staff. Why can't we all have lunch together? We do appreciate staff may want somewhere quiet to eat, but this shouldn't be in the bar.

This idea is to get the student space back and to encourage the University to have the staff room somewhere else on campus.

This idea is being posted on behalf of a group of students

After talking to two lecturers about this today it turns out (although they may only represent a few) this is not exactly what the staff want either. They explained for a while now they have been asking for a space, like their old common room when it had access to hot food and drink, for a while. They would like this for the opportunity to meet staff from other departments, obviously have private discussion etc. Perhaps an idea is to work with staff to ask the university for a more suitable space for them that does not take away from us.

This is what I am aiming for with this, i feel that there would be other options for this area as bar 301 would not provide a private quiet space for staff, I do feel that there are more suitable areas that would meet the needs of both students and staff alike.
