First of all, we would like to apologise for the latenesss in response and the experience that you have had. We do run checks in cycles to make sure that societies are still running but we will check what has happened and get in touch with you separately.
I don't know if this is a good idea or not, but I think we should try out revising student societies every once in a while, to see if they are still active, or if they have become spaces for new members to take over.
I have joined paid societies for £50 where we have only done 1 or 2 activities together over the year. I don't think that is fair. I understand students are busy and not always able to commit to their society as much as they would like, but as a first year student, I was interested in being part of an active society, which I haven't gotten to do. If I'd have known the group would be completely inactive, I would not have committed to it financially...
Some societies are great and thriving! ...And some are really inspired ideas, but completely inactive communities 😬
