Young Person's Project Volunteer

Details Hide[-]

CROPT have recently developed a Young Person's Project which consists of three programmes that address sexual harm and violence. We utilise volunteers in all three programmes of work and across Cumbria, in particular in Carlsile, Whitehaven and Barrow-in-Furness.

Mentoring:

Mentors provide support and encouragement to young people who have displayed harmful sexual behaviour. They work with an individual young person to model apporpriate behaviour and attidtudes, to develop pro-social relationships and activities, to reduce stigma nd social isolation and create a safe space for them to explore their future.

Intervention:

CROPT provide bespoke intervention packages for young people who sexually harm but have not been convicted of sexual offences. This intervention is delivered by a paid member of CROPT staff but is supported by volunteers. Sessions are designed to reduce risk, address harmful sexual behaviour, to build on the strengths of each young person and to equip them with the skills to live a healthy and safe life.

Under Pressure:

Under Pressure is a 6-8 week groupwork programme that aims to address violence and abuse in teenage relationships. The programme consists of 6-8 sessions delivered to groups of up to 8 young people, covering the following:

  • Under pressure to be sexy: Growing up in a sexualised culture
  • Under pressure in love: What’s OK and what’s not OK in relationships
  • Under pressure to take risks: Grooming and expoitation
  • Under pressure look, under pressure to be seen: The impact of pornography

All volunteers undergo comprehensive training and receive ongoing support and regular professional supervision. Volunteers should be aged over 21 and have an enhanced DBS Certificate (which we can apply for on a volunteer's behalf). If you are under 21 but you are interested in volunteering with us, please do get in touch.
