About us

UCSU backs you up, stands beside you and speaks up for you from welcome week to graduation. Sign up with the University of Cumbria and you’re automatically a member. It’s free, it lasts your whole time here.

We’re a separate charity, not part of the University. 7 students you elect run it, so every decision starts with what students actually need. In lectures, on placement, and everywhere in between.

What we do for you

Advocacy We back you up, at the University and across the country.
Community Find your people through student-led groups, networks and events.
Advice Free, confidential and independent — on your course, money and wellbeing.
Your ideas Backing for campaigns, volunteering and taking the lead.

Your voice, in action

Here’s how it actually works. Every year, students elect 7 officers and 10 campus reps. Course reps collect what’s going wrong (and right) in lectures, then bring it to the people who can fix it. We’re listening all year round — not only at exam time.
