☀️ Get to Know Them ☀️: Aidan Dawson 2.0
We sat down with Aidan Dawson, the Wellbeing Officer, to learn more about him as he begins his second term in office!
Can you tell us a little bit about yourself? What did you study?
My name is Aidan. I love going to the gym, eating food (especially East Asian), making social media content and playing video games.
I studied Fine Art from 2021-2025 at the Brampton Road Campus where I made short films, costumes, sets and makeup looks.
What made you want to run for this role?
I chose to re-run for this position as I enjoy working with the students. Whether that be through running craft events, supporting societies or implementing beneficial changes.
What do you plan to focus on during your time in office? Is there a particular project that you hope to launch or an issue you want to address?
I plan to run engaging and fun wellbeing focused events that will allow our busy students some time to relax and refocus.
What is one skill or experience you have that you think would be useful in your role?
Approachability. I always aim for students to feel comfortable chatting with me about anything small or large.
What is one thing that people might be surprised to know about you?
In 2012 I took part in an Olympic dance ceremony during Secondary School. We performed on the street of Appleby-in-Westmorland and then ran behind the Olympic Torch Bearer through part of the town.
What is your favourite place to go? Do you have a favourite spot on campus?
Japan and The Netherlands are my favourite places to go abroad. My favourite spot on campus is either the SU office on Fusehill Street (Learning Gateway ground floor) or The Cube because they have burgers.
You have the chance to have dinner with one historical or public figure; who would it be and why?
Bailey J Mills, I think it would be the funniest dinner of my entire life.
Or Henry VIII so I could show him Horrible Histories compilations and sing ‘Divorced, Beheaded and Died, Divorced, Beheaded, Survived’ as I think his reaction would be class.
How do you think your friends would describe you in three words?
I would say Loud – Forgetful – Whimsical

What is one goal, personal or professional, that you hope to achieve this year?
I want to gain much more confidence within a professional and ‘corporate’ setting. I believe I have the approachability and cooperative teambuilding skills. I now need to use these transferable skills within a ‘behind the scenes capacity.’
