Angelica will take up the role of Online Learner Officer in September 2026. As the voice of all online students, we sat down with her to get to know her a little better.

Can you tell us a little bit about yourself? What did you study?

I’m 27 years old, and I have a toddler. My degree is in Spanish Studies and Education. I completed my Open Degree in 2023 while pregnant with my daughter, who was born in July. It made me feel powerful, as I never thought those two stages of
life would be compatible. Completing my degree while pregnant is one of my biggest achievements.

What made you want to run for this role?

I think I’ve had a unique experience; I’ve lived and studied in 4 different countries, including England. I’ve experienced teaching and learning in many different languages and methods. I wanted to run for this role because I believe I have the capacity to understand and empathise with people. I believe students need someone with extensive experience in similar situations.

What do you plan to focus on during your time in office? Is there a particular
project that you hope to launch or an issue you want to address?

I want to focus on ensuring every student feels heard and represented. As someone who has studied in different countries and educational systems, I understand that everyone has different experiences and challenges. I would like to help create more opportunities for students to share their views and concerns and to feel confident in themselves.

What is one skill or experience you have that you think would be useful in
your role?

I think being able to communicate with people from different backgrounds is one of my strongest skills. My experience studying and living in different countries has helped me become open-minded, patient, and understanding.

What is one thing that people might be surprised to know about you?

That I used to be a very sporty person (although not so much since becoming a mum!). I played football for a decade, and I’m a Liverpool fan living in Manchester.

Where is your favourite place to go? Do you have a favourite spot on campus?

I love going up the stairs to the campus canteen, as the views towards the library building are lovely. Also, I enjoy having lunch with great views towards the other side; it feels amazing.

You have the chance to have dinner with one historical or public figure; who would it be and why?

In this moment in my life, I think I’d love to have dinner with Jesus. I was born Catholic, and there are still things I don’t understand, especially with how the world has evolved. It would be a unique opportunity to ask questions and search for answers.

How do you think your friends would describe you in three words?

Patient, impulsive, and caring.

What is one goal, personal or professional, that you hope to achieve this year?

I am passionate about languages and would like to share that passion with more people. I am looking forward to starting online tutoring over the summer
