Sima

Sima will be taking up the role of Academic Officer in July this year. We caught up with Sima to find out more about her, what she hopes to get out of her term in office and what she gets up to away from work.

Tell us a little bit about you, what you've studied and what you got up to before coming to the University of Cumbria?

Before starting my MBA (Master of Business Administration) at the University of Cumbria, I was working as a teacher/ coach, translator and writer. I have been in education in many years; that is why I decided to work as the academic officer as I believe I know students’ needs, wants concerns and worries. My undergraduate degree was in English Literature and my first masters was in TEFL.

That sounds exciting! What do you like to do when you're not studying or working?

In my spare time, I love to read, listen to music and dance, do yoga, and meditate. Also, walking in the park and taking photos of the beautiful nature of Lancaster immensely energizes me. My sanctuary is Williamson Park, which is a piece of heaven, especially in the spring.

That sounds like a amazing time! What drew you to running for office, in particular the role of Academic Officer?

I am bringing my years of experience as a teacher, entrepreneur, coach, writer, translator and, of course, a student to this role and I will do my best to be influential in making the university a better place for the students. I believe everyone has a unique potential talent and capability that, with the right support and guidance, can be actualized and flourish. I would be honoured to be part of that support for the students at the University of Cumbria.
