Why do we have Officers?

Officers are current students or just graduated students who have been elected to their positions by other University of Cumbria students, usually in March. They can only run for their positions for a maximum of two years. This means that they will always bring a fresh outlook to the Union with regards to what students need and that they will always start their role with a ready-built set of student connections.

As a result of those initial connections, as well as the knowledge and the experience they will gain in their term of office, Officers are then able to represent others within the relevant University Committees. Officers also scrutinise and hold to account the work of the Union and are effectively the Union leaders.

Officer positions are full time, paid positions that start on the 1st July and end on the 31st June the following year. If you are thinking about running for one of the Officer roles or if you would like more information about what they do and how they can help you, please contact studentvoice@cumbria.ac.uk.
