Jackk

I have been doing karate since I was 7 years old and have trained in several disciplines. Growing up I found that karate helped me to boost my confidence as well as boost my physical fitness. Recently I have begun to teach martial arts at my local club and have sinch been able to start a class in Lancaster, where I have been able to teach self defence skills.

After competing in a handful of competitions I saw that BUCS were holding national championships. After contacting the student union, I was advised that there was a grant available to help me attend. After applying for the grant, the student union offered to help fund any equipment I needed for the competition and even any travel costs.

I was entered into the Cumbria men’s kumite team, as a solo competitor and fought in the heavyweight category. After weighing in on Sunday morning I waited for my event to take place. I was put straight through to the next round as my first opponent failed to show and was eventually called to the mat for my fight. Sadly, I lost the fight and was not put through to the finals, however I enjoyed every second of being there. Thanks to the student union I was able to enter the competition and was offered the support for any future events I wished to enter.
