Look after yourself this Freshers’ Week

Healthy in freshers article

Starting at university can be an exciting time, but somewhere between a potentially alcohol-heavy Freshers’ week and the anxiety of being somewhere new, it can be difficult to remember to look after yourself. Your health and wellbeing is important to us so we’ve put together our top tips for looking after yourself this Freshers’ week – and beyond!

  1. Give yourself a night off. You might worry about missing out but you’ll feel better in the long run giving yourself a night off now and again.
  2. Stay hydrated. If you are out and about doing lots of things, or if you are drinking alcohol, it’s important to keep drinking water and stay hydrated.
  3. Remember to eat fruit and vegetables. It’ll help to boost your immune system to stave off Freshers’ flu, and it’s much healthier than living off takeaways.
  4. Get 8 hours of sleep a day – you will run your immune system down if you are constantly tired. Try and keep to a regular sleeping pattern too. If you become nocturnal, it’ll make getting up for lectures a lot harder!
  5. Work out a budget and stick to it. Too many people spend too much money at the start of term, meaning they are soon out of pocket. Don’t get stressed about money matters and start budgeting now.
