Gooood Evening and Happy Friday!

I have a lot of exciting updates since my last article…

Firstly, a huge thank you to everyone that has helped to support the Student Food Bank and the Wellbeing Packs. All flats in halls of residences should now have received their wellbeing pack from us! We really hope you enjoy them. Please remember, if you are a student living near one of our campuses, you can request one of our food bank packs.

Movember and International Men’s Day offered us a 350-mile challenge and men’s health quiz from the Corporate Health Team; some inspiring and thought-provoking personal reflections from a friend and a man who survived breast cancer; and a wonderfully wholesome episode of You’ve Been a Great Help by UOC graduate Brandon McCaffrey and your Activities Officer, starring two UCSU staff.

We’re in the midst of Disability History Month right now! The plans kicked off with some really inspiring discussions with staff and students across the university – I really hope this web of activity continues grow and we can make some really positive change!

Throughout the month, on Facebook, the Disabled Students’ Network are posting the disabled role models nominated by you (and shared by me). We’re also working on some accessibility maps for every campus - we need as many people as possible for this, so however small you deem your contribution, please get in touch anyway!

Last Friday, Charl and I wore blue and pink to honour Transgender Day of Remembrance. I spent the morning writing a short reflection for social media, which was followed by a really powerful article by Riley about her experience when coming out as transgender. This all prompted me to do a little digging into the experience for transgender students at UOC and I’m now involved with reviewing the policy for the name change process.

There’s a lot of background work going on for my campaigns at the moment… The calendar that I mentioned in my last article, is currently in the hands of UOC’s fabulous IT department. They’re working their magic on making it super easy to use for everyone. Charlotte and I cannot wait to share it with you all! But, if you’re more interested in where these events and activities could be held, then get in touch and I’ll get you involved in the campus management groups that I’m setting up. Whatever your focus or inspiration - whether it’s accessibility, environmental or just a hatred for white walls - pop me a message.

Stay safe everyone and have a wonderful Christmas x

⭐️⭐️
