Garden wildlife week 1024x416

National Gardening week is coming up and it is a great time to reconnect with nature and start planting! There are lots of benefits to gardening such as, exercise, stress relief and even improving your diet!

One of the most obvious benefits to gardening is that you can grow your own food, which can help reduce the cost of your food shopping. Not all gardens have to take up lots of space either, windowsill gardens are great way to get you started! Windowsill Gardens usually feature plants such as, Herbs, leafy greens, tomatoes and even peppers! Find a windowsill that gets at least 6 hours of sunlight a day and the seeds will be sprouting in no time.

Planting to help biodiversity - Student led Groups

The Wildlife society (based at Brampton Road, Carlisle)  have been working hard to create a wildflower meadow of native UK Species, including two species of orchid. They maintain the meadow to promote plant diversity and create habitat for wildlife such as, foxes, deer, tree sparrows, barn owls, ghost moths, woodpeckers and more! Their dedication to the cause shows a profound difference in both habitat and diversity to the surrounding areas creating a case study for large impacts in small areas!

Well done Wildlife Society! To get involved with the meadow conservation click here to find out more about the Wildlife Society.
