Greetings, reader!

The week has been challenging, eventful yet fun- so I'll be brief with my updates on campaigning and UCSU activity, with this report.

Panel:

First and foremost, the results to this year's Panel Elections have been released today, so HUGE CONGRATULATIONS to all of our new Panel Reps! I'm looking forward to meeting and working with you all in representing and serving the betterment of the student Experience at UoC with UCSU.

In terms of Panel campaigns on my corner; Assistive technologies and Loop Hearing Systems have been making prominent progress, which I will be getting more information form Catherine Briggs and Jo Smith in the University for more specific information to report to the Panel, on the first meeting of the year which is next Sunday (The 12th of November).

I'll be meeting with University managers in the Information Service department for updates on the Printing Unit. If you think that there should be some sort of Printing Allowance for Teaching courses, or reduced prices for printing large amounts, then SUBMIT your idea to the Panel page on UCSU.me/yourideas, and let's see if we can make a change!

Officer Campaigns:

Anti-Bullying Week:

The Officer Team have organised (mostly Hannah Price, your Community & Partnership Officer!) some events to raise awareness for Anti-Bullying Awareness with posts on social media (check your UCSU's campus pages!), as well as a Quiz night and Sports Day at both Lancaster and Fusehill Street. Details have gone out on our social media threads, and posters will be put out on these campuses! Friday the 10th in Lancaster 1-3pm for the Sports day, and Monday the 13th (November) 1-3pm at the Fusehill Sports Hall, with the Quiz nights being at 7pm on both days (The View on Friday, and Calva Bar on the Monday). Please wear something blue to show your support! :D

Because I said I would-Ask:

This week, I made a 'Facebook-Live' video to announce your Officer Team's campaign of raising student participation and awareness of how you can get support from the University as well as UCSU. So far, at Fusehill Street (outside the SU Office) and at the SU Office in Lancaster, we have a board where you can write a question of how to get help on any issue- and you can do it anonymously. Then, you can put the question on the board, and we will write an answer on it- so all students can benefit from knowing how to get help!

Nightwise:

As previously mentioned, your Officer team have made progress with our 'Nightwise' campaign (see Officer's Log #2) to raise awareness how we can all keep each other safe and happy during night-time socialising, and also about the issue of substance abuse. We're going to be discussing it with you to get your throughts and feelings on it, and what we can do to best help our students keep happy and healthy, and not run into too much trouble regarding the matter.

Personal Update on 'Lifestyle Champtions'

As mentioned in the last Officer's Log; our wonderful Graphic Design intern Elinor Prescott has designed a beautiful logo for my 'Master-Strategy' for raising student health & happiness on all sites, so we can all work united and connected under a colourful banner- which is the picture for this article.

The initiative is to start off with some like-minded student volunteers to link together and with me to promote student health & happiness (Physically and Mentally/Emotionally) while they are at university, here. From then, I'm aiming to build up such momentum that it becomes a sustainable Student Society to be carried on past my term of Office (post June 2017) so students ahve the best chance of being supported and coonected in the aim of having a happier and healthier time at the University of Cumbria.

Lately, I have been laying some ground-work for better health by promoting the brilliant 'Headspace' mindfulness app (give it a go) which you have the option of having an entire year's FREE subscription- through your UCSU!

I have also started posting videos and Facebook-Lives of 'Chair-Yoga' Tutorials- so when you're desk-bound in revision & study, you can still keep supple and fit without having to rush to the gym! Check out our UCSU social media pages to keep updated with it!

With other Stress-Busting campaigns, I'm looking getting 'Pet's as Therapy' and 'Borrow my Doggy' events and activities at our campuses more often! Hope you like dogs!

Looking forward to seeing and working with you again, soon.

Just emssage me or the Officers if you need anything, or if you have bright ideas for positive change!

With all sincere respect and gratitude/Namaste,

Rowan Cooper-Gritten. Welfare & Support Officer 2017/18.
