Officer's Log: Mission Updates of the previous 3 weeks. -Rowan Cooper Gritten, Welfare & Support Officer 2017/18

The Officer team has been highly engaged with many Diplomatic Missions to represent and serve the needs of the students, so that they can best enjoy their student experience at the UoC- and even be supported in their times of need.

With many meetings (including Health & Safety, Board of Directors, lunches and discussions with the Deputy Vice Chancellor and University Management team- along with Trustee Board) things have been fairly tough, but nothing we can't handle with our mission to make your voices heard loud and clear.

Panel nominations and Elections have also been taking place, so that every student can be best represented by our virtuous democratic system!

Personal & Officer Team Campaign Update- Key Notes to be aware of:

A)  ''Because I said I would Ask'' boards.- Since the NUS conference 2017, the Officer team have been inspired to collaborate and spearhead a 'Questions' board at the Lancaster and Fusehill Street UCSU offices, and proceed to spread the initiative to Brampton Road & Ambleside. The purpose of these boards are for students to take a 'Promise to ask' card, write a question (about anything, big or small) and leave it on the board for a UCSU Staff member or Officer to write an answer- so it could be entirely anonymous, and awareness of all the support which students can have access to will increased. The amazing logo is the cover picture for this article- created by our wonderful Graphic Design Intern, Elinor Prescott!

B) Nightwise- This campaign was launched on Monday the 23rd of October to promote happier and safer nights out in town, across all our campuses. From recent concerns of student safety. It's to raise the awareness of the risks involved with substance misuse and abuse- and all the support that you can get if things get out of hand.

C) Lifestyle Champions: Progress has been made with my 'Master-Plan' of generating a society/group of like-minded students to unite in the good virtue of raising health & happiness, across all campuses! The logo is featured in my Officer's report in the upcoming Squealer article. If you're passionate about health & wellbeing, and helping others be happier & healthier- then just drop me an email at rowan.cooper-gritten@cumbria.ac.uk, or Rowan Cooper-Gritten (UCSU work account) on facebook!
