Rigg Cottage Social Space Open!
We have been working with the university to respond to your request for flexible social space on the Ambleside campus and are pleased to announce that Rigg Cottage is now open. Rigg Cottage has been refurbished especially for student use, and has also enabled some dedicated space for the Chaplaincy and UCSU teams to work from to support welfare and social activities.
The following spaces are available:
- A student lounge
- A kitchen area
- A multi faith space for prayer or quiet reflection
- An office for the chaplaincy team
- An office for UCSU
From Monday – Friday the student lounge will be unlocked by Domestic Services and will remain open until 7pm. After this time you may still access the space by signing the key out (and back in) with security. You will be required to show your Cumbria card. If you are using the space at 7pm you will need to take responsibility for the key. Weekend access will also be enabled through key sign out/in with security.
The multi faith prayer space will follow the standard prayer room protocols. The space will normally be unlocked and available for use by 8am during the normal University working week. The timing of the closure of the space will vary depending on the security lock up route (which changes regularly) and the time of year. Access to the prayer space out of hours (weekends or evenings) is possible by signing out the relevant key from reception or security. You will need to show your Cumbria card.
We hope that you will enjoy making use of these new spaces. Whilst the spaces are available for use from today, please note that arrangements are still being made to enable wifi access in the building. The university will update you once the wifi installation has been completed.
We will let you know when there will be someone in the UCSU Office through the Ambleside Facebook Group. We are working to pull together a list of dates in advance that the office will be open.
