Row Britannia is an inclusive (adaptive sport) mental health, fitness and wellbeing challenge by The British Inspiration Trust (BRIT), for teams throughout the UK to raise vital funds and positive awareness by completing a 2,020 mile (3,251km) row (the equivalent of rowing the British isles).

The event is running between the 2nd and 13th of March across all UoC campuses. Each campus has a rowing machine located in one of the main buildings.

‘Through an extraordinary collaboration of partner organisations, Row Britannia will provide a UK-wide platform, campaign and event that will bring together universities, colleges, education and sports governing bodies, British Sporting Icons and communities. The Row Britannia Challenge for Sport Relief has the potential to involve every university and college student in the UK.  If every university and college enter a team and raises £3000, they could raise a total of £1.5million for Sport Relief.’ The Vice-Chancellor Executives have committed to matching the funds raised by the event.

Big-name athletes, Ben stokes, Helen skeleton, Helen Lee and Katherine Morris have been lending their skills to the campaign, hoping to encourage university and college students across the UK to give their legs a workout and raise funds at the same time.

On the last Wednesday (11th) of the event, there will be an intercampus competition across lake Windermere for students to make up the remaining miles.

To get involved just head to any of the machines and get going, just remember to log your miles afterwards! To make sure everyone stays hydrated and their energy levels up Baxter Storey, catering company to UoC have provided goodie bags with water, fruit and sweet treats.

If you want to discuss the event more or would like to find out how to get involved just get in touch with Joe, the UCSU Welfare Officer on joe.morrell@cumbria.ac.uk
