Assessments aren't fun at the best of times, but assessments over the winter are the worst. It's cold, it's dark and it can be easy to get sucked into doing revision and little else. The most important thing during an assessment period is to remember to look after yourself, so here are ten tips to beat exam stress.

1) Eat healthily. That way you are less likely to become ill. Check out the BBC's selection of quick and healthy recipes.

2) Keep hydrated. If you are stuck at a desk for hours on end you can sometimes forget to drink water, but that will only make you feel more tired.

3) Sleep well. This can be easier said than done, but try to go to bed and get up at a regular time to help your body clock. The Sleep Foundation have some tips online.

4) Exercise regularly. It will make you feel better. Why not take up a new sport for the new year?

5) Have pretty stationery! Not necessary but it can put a smile on your face while you're working. Here are 37 things you never knew you needed for your desk...

6) Meet up with your friends. It's far too easy to hide yourself away, but being social can do you a lot of good.

7) Treat yourself to something, like one of these great hot chocolates.

8) Take regular breaks.

9) Do something you enjoy - whether that's walking the dog, watching a film, taking a bath... make sure you make time for it!

10) Plan something fun for when it's all over.

Good luck to everyone who has upcoming exams and assessments!
