The Alan Jones Prize is now open for entries. The prize is for £2000 and is awarded for the best 5000-word essay or equivalent assignment based on one of the following titles:

·         'Both art and religion express the heart of humanity.’ Provide examples of this and discuss their continuing resonance.

·         How important are religious differences in a 'post-truth world'? Explain your reasoning and conclusions.

·         Why might religious concerns be relevant in areas of health, wealth and/or the nuclear industry? Within Cumbria, in any one or all of these areas, how can deepest convictions best be articulated and to what extent should they be heeded?

All students who are currently registered at the University of Cumbria are eligible to enter. Entries may be sent in as email attachments to brian.gates@cumbria.ac.uk and elliott.shaw@cumbria.ac.uk, or in print form via internal mail to Prof Brian Gates or Dr Elliott Shaw at the Lancaster campus. They must be received by July 31st and should be accompanied by continuing contact details. Decision about the award of the Prize will be announced by 15 September.
