UCSU's Quick Guide to Academic Appeals

Tuesday 29-11-2016 - 13:35

Did you know that it is your responsibility to ensure you know when your official assessment results will be released and to check your emails and/ or the student portal as soon as possible from the official release date?  This is especially important in case, for example, you are eligible to make an academic appeal, to find out details of any reassessments, or to see if EC claims gave been granted.

WHAT’S AN ACADEMIC APPEAL?

Once your official results have been released, the University grants you 10 working days to submit an appeal to request reconsideration of a decision made by the University Assessment Board from that date. However, you must have eligible grounds to do so. These are:

Disagreement with any mark or grade will not be considered as grounds for an appeal. Students wishing to raise issues outside the scope of the appeals process should do so through the University’s Complaints procedure.

For more information on assessments (including results, appeals and reassessments) or student complaints, visit the student handbook via MY Cumbria.

If you think you may be eligible to make an appeal, UCSU is also here to help.  Find out how to seek impartial information, guidance and support by visiting www.ucsu.me/support or book an appointment with one of our friendly caseworkers.
