The 10th October is officially recognised by the World Health Organisation as World Mental Health Day – an opportunity to raise “awareness of mental health issues around the world and mobilising efforts in support of mental health.”

One in four adults and one in ten children are likely to have a mental health problem in any given year. This can have a huge impact on the lives of millions of people in the UK, but it is estimated that only a quarter of people with a mental health problem in the UK receive ongoing treatment.

Additional support

We recommend speaking to a GP as they can provide you with the medical support you may need. For short term intervention, you may wish to contact the University counselling service. At UCSU we can offer advice on how to mitigate the impact on your degree and advise that you keep your tutor up to date with your wellbeing.

The theme for this year’s World Mental Health Day is psychological first aid. More information can be found on the World Health Organisation website: http://www.who.int/mental_health/world-mental-health-day/2016/en/
