Less plastic in university cafeterias.

All the cafes on campus are currently using a lot of plastic cutlery and take away cups which cannot be recycled.

It would be good to use compostable cups and cutlery to cut down on plastic use.

Also, offering a discount in cafes for bringing your own cup would be an excellent incentive for cutting down on take away cups.

Although the Ambleside campus has metal cutlery there is a lot of use of plastic lidded takeaway cups and polystyrene takeaway trays which could be removed totally and use cardboard packaging (like costa) for takeaway food?

I agree! My old college used something called Vegware, which is eco friendly and completely compostable. The only disposable cutlery they used was bamboo cutlery.

I agree with offering a discount for using own cup, we do use a lot of plastic and I'd love to see a way to use less

It would be helpful to replace the disposable plastic cups and jug of water in The View with a water fountain (like we have elsewhere on campus) so that students can refill their own bottles while eating in there, rather than using the single use plastic cups.

Yes, definitely! If everyone has their own water bottle, there doesn't need to be plastic cups.

I also agree with offering a discount for using your own cup, and replacing the plastic cups at The View with a water fountain, as it would be more useful as well as more environmentally friendly by reducing plastic usage, as it is definitely concerning the amount of plastic we do use on campus, even the tubs containing things like fruit are plastic switching them to something more environmentally friendly would definitely help.
