UCSU is currently doing a refresh on the Red Spots campaign. The new posters and resources will contain discount codes for UoC students to obtain reusable products online. Currently, the campaign seeks to help with period poverty for those who struggle to afford period products when they really need it and are without choice. UCSU has also previously used sustainable products but received feedback that they were not the most effective. This is what UCSU has done for now to ensure those who want to use reusable products can access it at a more accessible price but the campaign will be routinely visited to revise how we can best address our student needs.
We should have different period products available to us as part of the Red Spots campaign. As Ambleside is a predominantly outdoor studies university we should be able to have period products that match that.
When doing long days outside or multi day expeditions, some period products aren't suitable to use and the ones that are can be very expensive, these include menstrual cups.
These can be purchased as part of the government scheme as well as other reusable products that can be better for the environment. These include:
- environmentally friendly period pads
- reusable period pads
- applicator tampons
- non-applicator tampons
- menstrual cups
- period pants in a variety of sizes
