Reasons to Vote in the General Election

Generation vote

A General Election has been called on Thursday 8th June, giving you the opportunity to make your voice heard on national issues.

Here are just some of the reasons why you should vote on the 8th June.

  1. It’s easy

It doesn’t take long – all you have to do is follow the instructions on your polling card. Polling stations are open from 7am - 10pm on the day of the election so that you can fit voting in around other commitments.

  1. If you don’t vote, you won’t get what you want

Unless you vote, how can you expect anyone to know how you want the country to be run? Unless every kind of person votes, Parliament won’t be an accurate representation of the country.

  1. Democracy is important

It can be easy to take democracy for granted but there are still many places in the world where people don’t get the opportunity to vote. Plenty of people have campaigned to give you the right to vote. Celebrate the fact that the UK is a democracy and you do have the opportunity to have a say in how your country is run.

  1. Voting is important even if you don’t think your candidate will win

Living in a ‘safe seat’ constituency doesn’t mean your vote won’t count. If everyone believes that then change will never happen. If you do want to see a change you must show there is a demand for other parties to be represented.

  1. You can always leave your ballot blank

If you don’t feel aligned to anyone who is running as a candidate then you could leave your ballot blank. If you stay at home it is assumed you are uninterested, but if you turn up and leave your ballot blank then it shows you do not agree with anyone running as these are read out along with the results.
