Description

If you have a love for all things creepy crawly and want to do more in your environment to improve biodiversity, welcome to The Hive Mind!

The hive mind is an events-based society that aim to utilise our love for insects to create richer green spaces which support higher levels of biodiversity. By using different species of insects as bioindicators, we are better able to estimate levels of biodiversity in an area. We hope by the end of the academic year to find an increase in the local insect population.

What will we get up to?

Our events will consist of:

• Days out in the field learning the techniques of sweep netting and identification from professionals.
• A talk series highlighting the key role that insects play in our ecosystem.
• Movie and games nights.
• Moth trapping.
• Practical conservation efforts.
• Trips to local nature reserves.
• Walks with a picnic where curiosity is encouraged!

Whether you are an entomology enthusiast or just seeking some likeminded people to connect with we’d love to have you as part of our community and who knows? you might find your calling with us!

If you want to be more involved, you should check out our sister society – Ambleside Conservation Ecology Society (ACES)!
