Description

The University of Cumbria Physiotherapy Society

Welcome to our page!

Our aim:

As a society committee made up entirely of physiotherapy students, we aim to support you as best we can as fellow physio students. To do this, we work together to organise events that complement your physiotherapy degree both academically and socially. We aim for these events to include guest speakers, trips to physio-related events and exhibitions, regular socials and group activities, and extra in-service training and workshops.

Membership:

By becoming a member of our society you will gain:

  • Talks from a variety of professionals within the industry,
  • Access to the society buddy system, perfect for making those all-important connections,
  • Society kit and merchandise from sporting brand Kukri,
  • The chance to join in the fun at all of our social events,
  • New friendships, lifelong skills, and the best memories!

Surely you don't want to miss out on all of that.

Our £15 membership ensures you won't and covers you for the full academic year.

Why be a part of the Physiotherapy Society?

Getting involved with the events held by the society is a great way to…

  • meet the students in your cohort outside of lecture time and get to know each other better,
  • meet fellow physio students in other years – this can form a really helpful support network for sharing experiences and advice,
  • learn more about the different areas of physiotherapy by attending talks by guest speakers,
  • learn new skills and develop existing ones,
  • build confidence,
  • meet new people and make friends,
  • support and complement your learning,
  • engage with the wider physiotherapy profession and community,
  • provide and gain support to and from other fellow physio students.

Who currently runs the Physiotherapy Society?

Our Physiotherapy Society is currently run by a mix of second and third-year physiotherapy students.

Meet our team below, and feel free to get in touch with any of us anytime!

(President) - (s2103482@uni.cumbria.ac.uk)

Hi, I’m Kyle, a third-year physiotherapy student. Before I came to university, I spent a few seasons as a whitewater canoeing instructor, where my curiosity about how the body moves really started. I’ve enjoyed all areas of physio but have a specific interest in MSK and neuro, as I’m fascinated by problem-solving injuries and helping people through long-term rehabilitation.

When I’m not studying physio, I enjoy surfing, although I tend to spend more time swimming than riding the waves! Cornwall is my go-to escape. I also love travelling, diving into a good book, and discovering new music. And when I’m in need of a laugh, you’ll find me watching stand-up comedy.

As your society president, I’m dedicated to creating a space where everyone feels included, whether you’re in your first or final year. My goal is to build a supportive community where we can learn from each other, share experiences, and grow together. Whether it’s organising events, workshops, or simply providing a place to chat, I want this society to be a space where you feel comfortable connecting with others and developing your skills."

(Social Media/Content) - (S2304876@uni.cumbria.ac.uk)

Hi, I’m Benn, a second-year physiotherapy student. Before moving down south for university, I studied Sports Science, alongside running a Sports Massage clinic back in my hometown of Ayr, Scotland. Beacuse of this I have a very strong interest in MSK as it all about asking the right questions, to get the answer you need to figure out exactly what is going on with the person in front of you. Problem solving, and giving hands on treatment to help this person with their injuries.

In my spare time I have a few hobbies, which include: Weight lifting, Muay Thai, and occasionally I like to surf. I learned on the east coast of Scotland, and in Cornwall, and have been hooked ever since. Colder the better! I have a keen interest in travelling and have visitied 18 countries in the last 5 years, and hoping to increase this to 23 before starting 3rd year.

I'll be the one in charge of liaising with all the other physio commitee members, keeping the website and socials up to date so you know exactly what is going on at all times: sporting events, workshops, charity events  etc, etc. Keeping you in the loop!".

(Learning Development Officer/CSP Lead) - (s2303001@uni.cumbria.ac.uk)

I’m Anton and I am a second-year student this year at the UOC studying a BSc in physiotherapy. In my spare time, I enjoy spending time with my daughter, going to the gym, and following golf and football. My interest in physiotherapy stemmed from my time in the British Army, where I spent 7 years as a soldier. After active tours of Afghanistan, I saw the amazing rehabilitation of soldiers from life-changing injuries. This, along with a love of fitness, led me to want to pursue a career in physiotherapy. I am one of the learning and development officers, and I’m also the student representative for the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy (CSP). My role will be looking for speakers to come speak to members of the physio society, and I will also help direct your questions and set up the meetings.

If you have any ideas for speakers you would like to see over the duration of the course, then please let me know.

BSc - Year 2 Rep - (s2302766@uni.cumbria.ac.uk)

"Hi everyone, I’m Bruckman, and I’m the representative for the second-year BSc cohort. I’ve always been into sports – I’ve played a lot of football, rugby, and I train in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, along with running and gym sessions in my free time. Sports have given me a strong appreciation for physiotherapy and the role it plays in recovery and performance. I was born and raised in Carlisle, so if anyone has questions about the city or needs tips on places to check out, feel free to reach out. I’m looking forward to connecting with you all and making the most of our time in the society!."
