The University of Cumbria Physiotherapy Society

Welcome to our page!

Our aim:

As a society committee made up entirely of physiotherapy students, we aim to support you as best we can as fellow physio students. To do this, we work together to organise events that complement your physiotherapy degree both academically and socially. We aim for these events to include guest speakers, trips to physio-related events and exhibitions, regular socials and group activities, and extra in-service training and workshops.

Membership:

By becoming a member of our society you will gain:

  • Monthly talks from a variety of professionals within the industry,
  • Access to the society buddy system, perfect for making those all-important connections,
  • Society kit and merchandise from sporting brand Kukri,
  • The chance to join in the fun at all of our social events,
  • New friendships, lifelong skills, and the best memories!

Surely you don't want to miss out on all of that.

Our £10 membership ensures you won't and covers you for the full academic year.

Why be a part of the Physiotherapy Society?

Getting involved with the events held by the society is a great way to…

  • meet the students in your cohort outside of lecture time and get to know each other better,
  • meet fellow physio students in other years – this can form a really helpful support network for sharing experiences and advice,
  • learn more about the different areas of physiotherapy by attending talks by guest speakers,
  • learn new skills and develop existing ones,
  • build confidence,
  • meet new people and make friends,
  • support and complement your learning,
  • engage with the wider physiotherapy profession and community,
  • provide and gain support to and from other fellow physio students.

Who currently runs the Physiotherapy Society?

Our Physiotherapy Society is currently run by a mix of second and third-year physiotherapy students.

Meet our team below, and feel free to get in touch with any of us anytime.

(President)

"Hi, I’m Sarah. I’m a mature student in my third year of the BSc Physiotherapy. In my spare time, I’m a fell, trail, and ultra runner. I also enjoy socialising with friends and family. The love of this sport has led to an interest in studying MSK and sports science/injuries which is why I have chosen to study Physiotherapy.

I’m an approachable, friendly person and would love to hear what you would like to have offered by your society, so that I can make this happen for you! For example, particular talks that would interest you? what courses and workshops would you like to undertake? That is why we are here! Looking forward to hearing from you all!"

(3rd Year Rep)

"Hey! My name is Conor and I'm a second-year Physiotherapy Student at the University of Cumbria. The areas I'm most interested in are Neuro and Respiratory! During my spare time, I love to go on walks around the lake District with my family and hang out with my friends, I also dance and enjoy keeping fit in the gym too!"

MSc Rep

"Hey guys my name is Garrett Carlile and I’m a first-year MSc Physiotherapy (pre-registration) student. My interest in health and excise began a long time ago when I was heavily involved in many sports. For these reasons I studied for my BSc in Exercise and Health Fitness and obtained other qualifications In strength & conditioning, Pilates, and Nutrition.

I enjoy watching and playing all types of sports and getting outdoors as much as possible. My plans for the future are to travel and open my own practice."

MSc Rep

"My name is Liam Monds and I am a first-year MSc. Physiotherapy student studying in the Fusehill Street campus of the University of Cumbria. I have been involved in either sport or exercise for most of my life whether this was competing in martial arts, climbing mountains, or running marathons. This love for exercise led me to do a bachelor’s degree in exercise, health, and fitness at the University of Limerick which I finished in 2021, and a higher bachelor’s in fitness management in 2022. I have worked in the health and fitness industry since 2018 and I have a love for training people and watching them improve but I also love to study and further my education. Combining the two of these is what led me to study Physiotherapy at the University of Cumbria and I’m delighted to be here and a part of the Physiotherapy society committee.""My name is Liam Monds and I am a first-year MSc.
